Review
Hyundai i10 (08 - 13)
After being given a makeover in 2008, it looks a lot sportier and more fun. For a car of its size, it is surprisingly practical; you can comfortably fit four, or even five at a squeeze, especially in the modern version, with good leg and head room in the rear. The back seats are versatile and fold flat to add to luggage room. The cabin is decked out with robust materials. The centre console is neatly and simply laid out. The i10 is a city car performs at its best in the city. It’s nippy, and the steering is perfect for whizzing around in and dipping in and out of traffic. There are two fine engines: the 1.1-litre and the 1.2-litre petrol. They are a lot more efficient and inexpensive to run than some of their rivals. The fuel economy is hugely impressive in both engines too.
Look out for
• There were some complaints about the jittery clutch action
What we like
• Inexpensive car to buy and run; value for money
• It is enjoyable and easy to drive
• Has a robust and practical cabin
• Decent level of standard equipment and safety features
• Ride quality is smooth
What we don't like
• Automatic version is disappointingly weak
